The erroneous haemoglobin-hyperlipidaemia relationship.
نویسنده
چکیده
Hyperlipidaemia, whether primary or secondary to parenteral feeding with intravenous lipid emulsions, causes the haemoglobin level to be erroneously high when measured spectrophotometrically. Contrary to a previous report, evidence is presented which suggests a relationship between the amount of the false rise in the haemoglobin level and the type and degree of hyperlipidaemia.

The Relationship between Maternal Haemoglobin and Haematocrit with Low Birth Weight and Preterm Labour
Background & aim: Low levels of maternal haemoglobin and haematocrit in the first, second, and third trimesters are considered as possible risk factors regarding low birth weight (LBW) and preterm labour (PTL). The present study aimed to evaluate the relationship between maternal haemoglobin (Hb) and haematocrit (HCT) levels with LBW and PTL. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on...
متن کاملImplications of decreased serum adiponectin for type IIb hyperlipidaemia and increased cholesterol levels of very-low-density lipoprotein in type II diabetic patients.
The present study was performed to investigate the relevance of cholesterol levels of plasma lipoproteins [HDL (high-density lipoprotein), LDL (low-density lipoprotein), IDL (immediate-density lipoprotein), VLDL (very-LDL) and chylomicrons] determined by a novel HPLC method, with adiponectin, which is decreased in Type II diabetes and assumed to be involved in dysregulated metabolism and athero...
متن کاملParabolic relationship between plasma triacylglycerols and LDL-cholesterol in familial combined hyperlipidaemia: the multiple-type hyperlipidaemia explained?
FCHL (familial combined hyperlipidaemia) is a highly prevalent genetic lipid disorder that accounts for a substantial number of premature cardiovascular events. To date, FCHL has been complicated by the different lipid phenotypes that are present within one family and one individual patient over time. In the present study, we hypothesized that a parabolic relationship between plasma triacylglyc...
متن کاملHaemoglobin sickle d punjab: - a case report.
Haemoglobin S D-Punjab is a rare compound heterozygous haemoglobinopathy characterised by the presence of two β globin gene variants: Β6(GAG→GTG) and Β121(GAA→CAA). These patients' clinical and haematological features mimic haemoglobin S disease. We describe the first case of doubly heterozygous HbSD-Punjab from Malaysia managed with regular blood transfusion at the age of one. This case highli...
متن کاملHyperlipidaemia in patients with sleep-related breathing disorders: prevalence & risk factors.
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES several studies have shown a close relationship between obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) and dyslipidaemia. This study was designed to clarify the relationship of metabolic dysfunctions in sleep related-breathing disorders (SRBD), including OSA and simple snoring. The end point was to determine the prevalence of hyperlipidaemia and hyperuricaemia in SRBD. Factors contribut...
